MoviePass

There are other things on my mind, but the most agreeable thing I can post is my fascination with the business model of MoviePass.  Here’s the deal.  You sign up for $10 (or $7 or $8 depending on current deal) a month. This entitles you to watch one movie a day all month.  There are catches…

First you can’t go to special shows like 3D or Imax, but that’s alright.  Two, and most important, you have to get the ticket the day of the movie and in most cases, you have to be at the theatre to get the ticket.  No pre-sales or the like.  You can go in early and buy a ticket for later in the day, but again, only that day and only by going there (with rare exception.)

So far in my first month, I’ve seen three movies: Black Panther, Ready Player One, and Blockers.  All of them would have cost me $14 each if I went on a normal day.  I paid $8 and have half a month still to watch more.  I have found the best seems to be to go to the theatre less than a mile from my house on way home from work during the week when attendance is low and I have my pick of the seats.

I have no idea what deal they struck to make this seemingly insane deal work, but I do understand some of the up side to both parties, it just still seems to be too good to be true. Maybe it is, but I’m going to milk it for now and see stuff I’d never waste money on without the pass.
