MoviePassed

As a follow-up to the Moviepass post, they recently made a number of changes to their service that have people upset and confused.  Some affect current members like myself and others new members.  Let’s start with the new members.

The standard $10 for unlimited movies offer is gone (at least for now) and replaced with an offer that gives you 4 movies a month instead.  That’s one a week and still a good deal, but not as good a deal.  They give you some crappy trial for some other service with it, but I honestly don’t know how that is a ‘benefit’.

Okay, that out of the way, let’s talk about the changes that affect old and new customers.  You can no longer go see any movie you want to once a day (or once a week depending on your plan) but instead only can see movies you haven’t already seen with the service.  In other words, no repeat viewings.  This severely limits your ability to hit the one a day mark and really hampers my plans.  I figured as long as I could go see a movie later with a friend, it wouldn’t matter if I saw it first on a different date that I had some time to kill.  Quite annoying.

As well, some of us now have to take a photo of our ticket when we use the service and upload it.

It all boils down to two things.  One, people are using it more than they want us to.  Two, some people are ruining it for others by sharing their account and using it to scam services.  For example, some people would get tickets and not go just to earn rewards for the movie chain since the movie still counted since it was ‘paid’ for.  So now, we get less and have to do more to reap the benefits.

It’s still a good deal, just a lot less appealing.

The lengths one will go for a sale…

I recently got several emails from a company selling desks online, persistently trying to get my attention, because supposedly I wrote about their desk on my website at one point.  They want me to sign up as an affiliate to help sell their desks.  I tried the link they provided that was supposedly from my mention, but it didn’t resolve.  Seems sketchy right? Autorip

I have to say that Amazon has a great thing in their ‘Autorip’ program. For those that are unaware, a good portion of the physical music they sell includes a free MP3 version of the album so you can start listening as soon as you order.  As well, it’s part of their ecosystem then so you can tell Alexa to play it and it just knows you own it now and queues it up.  Considering some of the physical cds on sale are super cheap and you get the original disc and the new fangled digital, it’s a great bargain.  I just wish they did this for book/ebooks too.  I’d be buying so much more from them if that was the case.

Taking a Sheetz

As far as gas stations go, I typically frequent the local Sheetz on the way to work.  The gas prices are always decent, it’s on the way to work, and any size soda is only 99 cents.  They also had a nice deal with their loyalty card where every ten drinks would net you a free drink.  It was a great thing to get a free one every so often.  Then they rolled out the ‘bigger, better, sheetzier’ program. Spring Sale

I have to give Microsoft credit.  I’ve totally bought into digital games with the Xbox One.  Finding sales is still not as easy as physical discs and it takes longer sometimes for same level of discount but it’s getting better.  You can tell as I have a backlog of games waiting to be played that I bought while on sale.  And next week, the spring sale is back, with more bargains!  I still have games on my ‘wait and buy when they hit X price’ list so we’ll see if my backlog gets bigger.  At some point, one of two things will happen. I’ll catch up or I’ll have everything I eyed at some point in my backlog.  Neither is bad news for me as a gamer.
